GUTTAPASSING WITH GLASS TUBE - 1 BASIC POINTS

Here are some tips concerning guttapassing with glass tube.

To avoid gutta problems while painting we have to control the following:
OPTIMAL GUTTA CONSISTENCY for CALM EVEN GUTTA PASSING SPEED;
PRESSURE ON THE TUBE WHILE PASSING THE LINE;
The most important thing is: CORRECT POSITION FOR THE TUBE RELATIVELY TO THE SILK SURFACE.

The SPOUT of the tube should be STRICTLY PERPENDICULARLY to the surface of the silk (Adding the picture below). The  edge of the spout should fit closely and directly to the surface of the silk.

Wrong position of the tube minimize DROPLETT EFFECT causes many problems: not accurate broken line, gutta overflows from tube, etc.

STRICTLY PERPENDICULARLY  position, not to left , not to right!
We discussed the correct position for the tube, other problems could come from:

  • ·         thick gutta / thing gutta;

You have to find good optimal consistency for your gutta: it has to be not thick but not thing too much. Dilute it very slowly with essence F.  Follow the simple rule: depending of the silk density  the thicker your silk  the thinner should be the gutta.  !!! BUT  don’t dilute it too much, because in this case gutta can lost its waterproof protective characteristics. And you will have problems with painting.

Fill in the tube with gutta, try the line on a piece of silk.

If the gutta flows very slowly, lies on a surface of silk with broken lines >> add A BIT more ESSENCE F .
IF the gutta flows very fast >> add concentrated gutta.
Try again until you will get good line. Good resist line means: smooth, flat and accurate line with CALM GUTTA PASSING SPEED!

VERY IMPORTANT TO CONTROL:  gutta resist have to pass its way upside down from right side of the silk surface  till the wrong side of the silk through the silk fibres and saturate it through!
If not>> the dye will definitely find the way UNDER THE GUTTA LINE, flow  from already painted wet area  to the dry area .

  • ·         too much pressure on the tube while passing the line  / not enough pressure;
This problem is very common.

Normal position for the silk while passing the gutta it has to be at the same very level as if you just stroking it tender with a feather. … as if you doing nothing. Don’t wake your silk up ))) Silk have to stay stretched and calm as if nothing going on upside! As you are not passing gutta at all ))

You have to “catch” that DROPLET EFFECT which allows silk to soak the gutta BY ITSELF from the tube, as a natural magnet!

Correct!!!

Wrong!!!

TOO  MUCH PRESSURE on silk with a tube can cause the problem: in this case the spout of the glass tube ERASEs the gutta from silk immediately by itself before the silk could even soak the gutta.

NOT ENOUGH PRESSURE on silk with a tube:  no  droplet effect, the gutta flows as a river from the tube and you get bad and not accurate line as a result!

Also want to add. Painting have to be not too much wet, you have to stop the stroke NEXT to the gutta line to let the dye spread by itself till the line. To prevent simple OVERFLOWs of the gutta . Sometimes this also happens. To avoid HALLO next to the gutta line...
